“Feinherb” is one of our Heritage wines expressing the unique characteristics of our strictly Missourian varieties. Missouri Riesling has a strange yet interesting history: it was widely planted in the late 1800s but began to fall out of favor post-prohibition. It nearly became extinct save for a few plantings here in Missouri, particularly in Westphalia Vineyards, the source of our own Missouri Riesling. It is important to note that there is no relationship to the actual Riesling variety - rather, Missouri Riesling is a scion of the Taylor vine. The name stems from the German immigrants and vineyard workers’ nickname for the variety.
Our “Feinherb” is a nod to this unique, labrusca-esc variety. It is blended with Traminette and made “softly sweet” as is customary of German Feinherbs.
