Orion Beckmeyer's Hartsburg Vineyard lies at the northern edge of the Ozark Mountain AVA, containing perhaps the oldest mountain range in the country. The bedrock contains Devonian and Mississippian limestone with small amounts of shale, clay, and iron—giving a chalky minerality, hint of pencil shavings, and silky tannin structure. Ripe elderberry, pomegranate, and blood orange zest is surrounded by sage, bergamot and crushed rock. The palate is silky with bright, tense energy that relaxes into a lengthy finish popping with red and blue fruits.
