The white grape variety (also New York 65-533-13) is a complex, interspecific new cross between Joannes Seyve 23-416 (Bertille Seyve 4825 x Chancellor) x Gewürztraminer, which was confirmed according to DNA analyses carried out in 2008. Genes of Vitis aestivalis, Vitis cinerea, Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed in the USA in 1965 by H. C. Barrett in Illinois. It was then further developed at the Vine Breeding Institute of Cornell University in Geneva, New York State, and released for cultivation in 1996. It was a crossing partner in the new variety Aromella. The Traminette is destemmed but vinified three separate ways: direct press, overnight soak on the skins, and 6 days cold soak to pull more aromatics. The wine is then blended and aged entirely in stainless steel. Bottled off-dry.
